LG V40 ThinQ : Is It Worth $900?

In 2018 LG have have already released three devices. Their new phone is called the LG V40 ThinQ. The camera on this phone is what makes it unique. This phone has 5 awesome cameras that make this phone's camera absolutely awesome.

REFINED DESIGN, GOOD OLED DISPLAY

This new phone looks exactly like LG V30 and also looks the same as LG G7. The glass on the back looks clean and simple. If you handle the phone for a while the glass will have fingerprint smudges. The glass on this phone curves into the edges. It's quite comfortable to hold this phone. The phone comes in a New Aurora Black color. This phone is quite light it weighs at just 5.96 ounces.

This phone has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and makes the phone feel narrow. The power button on this phone is located on the right side. The volume button is on the left side. The headphone jack on this phone is located at the bottom of this phone. There is also an A.I key which you can you for Google Assistant. It works well with no issues. This phone has a USB type-C charging pod and there is a speaker at the bottom. The design on this phone isn't flashy.

LG V40 has an OLED display. It also has a 6.4 inch display screen and a picture resolution of 3,120 x 1,440. It maybe tough to reach the top of the screen. This phone also has a notch which some people don't like. Inside the notch there are two cameras on the left side of the notch and there is a speaker on the right side. The bottom of this phone is not bezel less. The screen on this phone supports HDR10 making it look colorful. In direct sunlight you will have to increase the brightness so as to see the screen well.

LOUD BOOMBOX SPEAKER

LG did an impressive thing when they included the Boombox speaker on this new phone. Including the speaker they had to change its hardware. The speaker produces a loud decent bass. With this speaker you can feel your phone vibrate when you play music or watch movies. The audio quality on this phone is really impressive. If you are a music lover you will fall In love with the boombox speaker. For optimal sound place the phone on a wooden surface or on a metal surface.

STRONG PERFORMANCE, NO ANDROID PIE

LG V40 ThinQ is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processors and is backed by a 6GB RAM. LG V40 has an internal storage of 64GB and there is also room for a microSD slot. When it comes to transition from app to another the transition is quite fast. All apps open fast and the performance is quite smooth. Games like Alto's Odyssey ran smoothly without any issues.

One disappointing thing about this phone is that it doesn't run on the latest android version. V40 supports Android 8.1 oreo. It should have come with Android 9.0 Pie which is the latest and the best. There was a time LG would launch their phones with the latest Android version. But nowadays they aren't doing that. There is no details on when updates will be made

The software on this phone is good but it's not the best. You can customize the user interface of this phone.

VERSATILE CAMERA

Here is where things get interesting. LG V40 has a whooping 5 cameras. LG V40 has 3 main cameras at the back and there are two cameras at the front. At the back you will find a standard 12 megapixel lens which has an aperture of f/1.5 and also has an IOS. You will also find a 16 megapixel lens with a wide angle and an aperture of f/1.9. There is also a 12 megapixel telephoto lens which has an f/2.4 aperture. You can play around with the cameras to take the best creative pic. These three back cameras are really amazing.

Photos taken on this phone are very colorful and the detail is on point. One issue on this phone is that photos may appear overprocessed. Overprocessed pics tend to look bad to some people. When it comes to taking pics in low light the standard camera is the best lens to use. It will capture and deliver really good pics. The standard camera can easily compete with the camera on iPhone XS. LG made some great improvements when it came to taking pics in low light.

On LG V40 there is a feature called Triple Shot which when used helps you to take 3 different pics from three different cameras. This will show you how the pics would have looked like on all the cameras. The pics are instantaneous. It will take around 3 secs for the Triple Shot to happen.

The A.I on this phone is quite good. It helps in identifying different scenarios and adjusting the settings to suite the surroundings. It improves the saturation.

When it comes to the video department there is no big improvements. There is a new feature called Cine Shot which is helpful in cinemagraphs. Cinemagraphs mean it mixes both the photos and videos. The pics are still but there is motion. This feature has also been seen on Moto Z3.

This phone would have been better of if it had major improvements on their camera department. A slow motion feature would have been good. The camera is impressive but it has some issues. At times it maybe slow and at other times the camera app my not launch. There is also shutter lag when it comes to taking pics.

When it comes to bokeh mode this phone can clearly identify the areas that need to be blurred. LG can't compete with other manufacturers when it comes to the camera department. LG V40 has an HDR option but their option is not as impressive as the one found on different devices.

LG V40 has two front facing cameras. There is a primary 8 megapixel lens which has an aperture of f/1.9 and there is also a secondary camera with a 5 megapixel wide angle lens. This camera has an aperture of f/2.2. This secondary camera is good for taking group photos.

THE CAMERA TAKEAWAY

The V40 camera takes good pics in different scenarios but it's not as impressive as on other phones.

DAY-LONG BATTERY LIFE

The V40 ThinQ has a battery life of 3,300mAh battery inside and it can last for upto a full day of use. If you heavily use your phone you will have to recharge the phone later on during the day. Wireless charging is available on this phone and it also supports Quick Charge 3.0.

PRICE, AVAILABILITY, WARRANTY INFORMATION

This phone is available for sale in different stores. You can get it for just $900. There is a one year warranty on this phone. The warranty covers manufacturing defects.

This phone doesn't have unique features. It has good specs that make it a great phone. All in all this is a good phone but its not worth $900
